Midlands League Information

Welcome to the 2008 Midlands Volleyball League.  This is being run as a series of 5 ‘Mini-Tournaments’ in co-operation with clubs in the Waikato & Bay of Plenty (Tauranga, Hamilton, Rotovegas & Whakatane), each on a Saturday a fortnight apart. Playing dates are:

·         May 10th – Tauranga

·         May 24thHamilton

·         June 7th – Rotorua

·         June 21stHamilton

·         July 5th – Rotorua

Who can enter?

Any teams from clubs in the Midlands area, plus teams from the North Harbour, Auckland & Manukau areas, plus other teams by application.

How it will work:

The plan is for costs charged (see below) to cover the cost of hiring the venues, shared among the teams, with a very small amount for administration. Teams can be entered for individual tournaments ($40 per team per tournament) or for the whole competition ($200 per team). Teams will earn standard points towards the Men’s & Women’s League tables when they play matches, so there will be a ‘winner’ of the League after the 5 tournaments. If at all possible teams will play 2 games and have 1 duty per playing Saturday (exceptions to this may be home teams having only one game, but we will try to avoid this. If a new team wishes to enter at any stage for one or more tournaments, that is no problem.

Home team provides:

·         Scoresheets (can be downloaded from http://www.fivb.ch/EN/Volleyball/Forms/Referees/VB_Scoresheet.pdf )

·         Whistles – teams should provide their own, but organisers should have back-up whistles for each court)

·         Rotation slips

·         Score indicators

·         Host team emails results through over weekend to volleyballwaikato@xtra.co.nz

Duty teams must provide:

·         Qualified 1st Ref (at least Regional A standard)

·         Competent 2nd Ref

·         Competent Scorer (on-the-spot training can be given to help new teams if necessary)

·         4 linespeople

Rules interpretation: suggest we use the following

·         Libero & 6 subs only (this is what Northern Zone & Club Nationals will be following)

·         Libero may change between games, but not within a match

·         Same handling interpretation as at 2007 Club Nationals & at 2008 Schools Nationals – i.e. held ball called when there is a ‘catch and throw’; more lenient on 1st receive than later hits, but only obvious double hits & held balls called (a little more lenient than in past)
